How Can We Help ?

Fourwalls runs London for Cancer Research UK

We’re never ones to shy away from a challenge at Fourwalls, so when Hamptons International approached us to help support their mission to raise £150,000 for charity to celebrate their 150th year, we jumped at the chance. Rather than just make a donation, we enlisted 10 members of staff to join Hamptons employees from the company HQ and local branches to run the 2019 Asics London 10k.

With just a few weeks to get in some solid training, we enjoyed getting out together to do some practice runs along the Blackwater Valley Path, which runs right past our offices near Camberley, and the Basingstoke Canal nearby. We’re very spoilt having some stunning scenery on the doorstep. Some managed more training than others, but on the day, everyone pulled off a great race, whether briskly walking or aiming for a 10k personal best. Our CEO, Owen Turgoose, even managed a great time after completing an 80-mile cycle sportive in the Cotswold Hills the day before.

The event was fantastic: the atmosphere was infectious and we loved running through the closed central London streets past landmarks like the river Thames, Westminster Abbey, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus and Green Park. Some of us even had time to stop for a selfie when crossing Westminster Bridge.

Everyone commented on the feeling of running through the finish line and receiving our medals – all runners know that ‘runner’s high’ and many of us are planning our next big challenge after completing the 10k this weekend. After the race we all gathered together for team photographs (and beers!) – many used the calorie deficit to go and enjoy an indulgent lunch in London before heading home too. It was very well deserved, as it was a hot weekend!

It was all for a great cause, too: Hamptons chose to raise £150,000 for their corporate charity partner, Cancer Research UK. The company has already raised £250,000 for the charity over the past five years. Cancer is a devastating disease that touches everyone in some way, whether directly or by affecting loved ones, so it was not a difficult decision for us to get on board with this excellent challenge.

We’re so grateful for everyone’s support, with both fundraising and providing support in person (and some leg massages!) on the day. The grand total of Fourwalls fundraising currently stands at £1468.75 – a fantastic achievement considering the team had just a few weeks to train and raise funds.
